James Acker, (Canada), James as been refereeing since 2007 and seriously since 2016 in Canada. In early 2017, James spent five months in Stellenbosch at the South African Refs Academy, before then returning to Canada where he since has refereed 15s all over Canada and USA, including AR at U20 International Series this year between England/USA and England/Canada and Canadian Rugby Championships in 2018, Senior Men’s provincial games in 2018. He continuing his refereeing having officiated at 80+ games including AR at Varsity Cup Young Guns game, Western Province Academy vs Eastern Province Academy. James has also refereed 7s at NY7s, Tobago 7s, AR @ HSBC Women’s 7s series.

Graham Allen, (Scotland), Refereed at all levels in Scottish rugby. Numerous Cup, Shield and Bowl finals. Officiated at U21 & Women’s Internationals. Pro rugby including Heineken Cup & Guinness Pro12. 6 IRB 7s and the Commonwealth Games 7s in 2014.  Refereed many 7s tournaments in Scotland as well Hong Kong, Kinsale, Las Vegas 7s, Army 7s, Barcelona 7s, Tobago 7s and RBW7s. He will also be the “Referee’s Manager for this year’s MERBW7s.

Steph Bulanda, (Canada), refereed in Ontario, Canada since 2011. Official at Karuma 7s in Gulu, Uganda 2013. Official at Ontario Junior Rugby Competition 2013 & Ontario Summer Games 2014. Officiated at Saranac Lake Can-Am Tournament 2014 & 2015, Refereed at Tobago Sevens in 2014 and 2015, refereeing the Women’s Finals both years.

Lee Bryant, (USA), picked up the whistle for her local society in Northern California in 2008 and made National Panel for USA in 2016. She has officiated two USA women’s 7s national finals. Has been an official at the 2015 PanAm games, Dubai 7’s, Rugby Town 7s and officiated the women’s final at the Las Vegas Invitational 7’s.

Malcolm Currie, (Scotland), A referee since 1996, officiated at all Scottish domestic levels up to Pro-league. Also refereed in England, Spain, France, the USA, Czechia, the Russian Professional League, 2010 Women’s Tournament at the IRB World Series Edinburgh 7s, Assistant Referee at the 2013 FIRA under-20 International championship. Malcolm started referee coaching with the SRU Academy in 2014, full SRU Panel from 2016 and was Coach/Assessor at the 2017 RBW7s. After successfully guiding referees from domestic games to age-grade international and Rugby Europe 7s, joined the SRU High Performance Referee coaching team in 2018.

Huw David, (Wales), started Refereeing in 1991 after suffering a serious neck injury. Two years in the Welsh District, then progressed to the WRU  up to Premiership level Pre -Professional  rugby. Officiated International, European Cup, Challenge Cup, Pro 12s. Refereed u 21s Internationals, Senior Schools Internationals, Over 20 Womens internationals including European Cup Final. Officiated IRB 7s, Amsterdam 7s, Geneva 7s, Roma 7s, Tobago 7s, Cwmtawe 7s and RBW7s.

Gordon Galashan, (Scotland), started Refereeing in 2010 after serious injury stopped his playing career. Gordon has been a member of the Scottish Rugby Referees Academy since 2014 and officiated at the Scottish Bowl Final 2015. He has refereed Scottish Schools Shield Final 2016 at BT Murrayfield. Official on King of 7’s, Border 7’s circuit and Legacy 7’s 2016. Gordon was previously an official at both the Tobago 7’s and last years RBW7s.

Michael Hargarve, (Canada), Referee in Ontario, Canada for the past three years. Official at the Ontario Summer Games 2013 and 2015. 2014 USA National High Championships. Has refereed at Saranac Lake Can-Am annually since 2014. Refereed previously at New York Sevens and Tobago Sevens.

Chantel John, (St Lucia), began playing rugby in 2004 eventually being selected for St Lucia. Began refereeing in 2015 and has been refereeing in the St. Vincent rugby tournament for the last three years. Chantel has also refereed in the St Lucia Rugby 7’s, 10s and 15s tournaments for the past 3 years.  She was appointed as Assistant Referee to the Rans International 15 game as well an Assistant Referee a the 2017 Rugby Barbados World 7s.

Thomas Krebs, (Canada), is a referee with the Nova Scotia society but has refereed across Canada, USA, UK and the Caribbean since 2004. Notable events such as Canadian National Championships, Ontario and Nova Scotia Provincial Championships, Las Vegas and New York 7’s, Tobago and Barbados 7’s, the Bruno Browne Cup in Trinidad, and famous Truro Indoor Sevens.

Kevin Mcgee, (Scotland), been refereeing since 2005 and is currently and SRU AR Panel Member. Kevin has had the pleasure off officiating in numerous Junior and Senior Finals at BT Murrayfield as well officiating in both Pro12 and IRB 7’s. Kevin has also refereed in both Canada and the USA. This will be is Kevin’s second year at the MERBW7s.

Kat Roche, (USA), is a referee currently based in Austin, Texas. She picked up the whistle her final year in university and immediately fell in love with the role. She went to Stellenbosch, South Africa to train for four months before returning to the USA where she has refereed the highest level of women’s rugby in both 15’s and 7’s. She has also refereed the Women’s 7’s Cup Qualifier in Mexico City and assisted at multiple HSBC 7’s events in the USA and Canada.

Charles Samson, (Scotland), currently a Guinness Pro12 TMO. Charles has also refereed Premiership rugby in Scotland, Sevens World Series Rugby and Rugby Europe Grand Prix series, U18 and 20 age grade internationals, women’s 6 Nations and men’s 6 Nations B competitions. Also currently President of the Midland Rugby Referee Society.

Eamonn Sayers, (Ireland), has officiated at all levels of rugby in Ireland as well as numerous Cup Finals and Pro level games.  Prolific on the sevens circuit and as well as three tournaments in Tobago, Eamonn also refereed at last year’s inaugural Rugby Barbados world 7s.

Tomas Tuma, (Czechia), Born and living in Praha. Starting officiating in 1991 at the age of 14 and combined playing and officiating up to U19. Fully switched to officiating within Czech Rugby Union and Rugby Europe/IRB. Joined JRWC in 1995 and 1996 as player and 2003 as Match Official. Regular Rugby Europe referee since 2000 at all levels including RWCQ, 6 Nations B, U20 and U18. Refereed several Rugby Europe 7s tournaments and AR in IRB 7s Bordeaux 2004 and World Games in 2005. Experience with club competitions in Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Romania.

Chris Williams, (Wales), Chris has refereed since 2001 and officiated in the top league in Wales as well as Pro 14, Heineken and European cup, Tier 2 international, Women Internationals, British and Irish cup, Anglo Welsh cup, Under 21 International and Under 18/16 internationals. He has officiated in all three levels of the Welsh domestic cup and at the International 7’s at Twickenham, Cwmtawie 7’s and Benidorm 7’s.
